Radstadt’s hiking bus to Rossbrand Ridge
Visiting our landmark mountain Rossbrand, at 1,768 m above sea level, should be part of everyone’s holiday in Radstadt especially in summer. The full 360’ panoramic views cover 150 alpine peaks and are very impressive when the weather is clear. For ease of identification, the peaks are marked on information boards. A lovely way to mark your visit is with a break in the Radstädter Hut, which offers home-made cakes, regional dishes and drinks.
From Radstadt, it is a 4 hour walk approx. to the top of Rossbrand. If that is too much then the mountain road is suitable for cars, motorbikes or mountainbikes.
The more comfortable way is to “climb up” with the Radstadt hiking bus, which takes you to just below the summit. From the parking place, there is only a short walk of about 15-20 minutes up to the summit.
The Radstadt Hiking Bus usually runs from around the beginning of June to mid-October, on Mondays and Thursdays, 3 times a day from the post-office to the Rossbrand and back again. From the car park it is then only a 20-minute walk to the Rossbrand plateau. The best thing about it: your guest card is also your € 1 hiking bus ticket.
Salzburger Sportworld Bus
During the summer months, the Sportwelt Bus runs daily from 1 May to 2 November between the villages of the Salzburg Sporwelt and you can use this service also for only €1 each way. From Radstadt, you can access Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Eben, Filzmoos, Flachau-Flachauwinkl, Wagrain-Kleinarl as well as Untertauern and Obertauern. Ideal for leaving the car behind and going shopping, visiting events in the neighbouring towns, going to the Therme Amadé or to reach hiking destinations easily or to be taken to the starting point for further hikes.
Timetables for the Salzburger Sportwelt Bus or Radstädter Wanderbus can be found online. The timetable for the Radstädter Wanderbus is also shown in the Radstadt holiday guide and available on the pin board at Hotel Stegerbräu.

Reaching the heights with the lifts
With lift-assisted hiking you glide effortlessly up into the high alpine pastures, to a tourist attraction or kid’s activity mountain. Many paths at the mountain stations are suitable for prams.
Perhaps the mountain station is already your destination: a mountain restaurant, a viewing platform, a suspension bridge, or a scenic lake or a kid’s adventure trail.
Start sporty tours from the mountain station, climb peaks or go on short pleasure hikes. The descent can be made with the lift, a summer toboggan, a mountain cart or even a mountain bike!

High above the clouds, you will find plenty to keep young and old amused with Dachstein suspension bridge, the Sky Walk, the Ice Palace or the Stairway to Nowhere.
For breathtaking views and a real adrenaline rush, try one of the hiking tours, via-ferrata routes or attractive mountain climbing areas, all accessible from the top station at 2,700 m.
Good to know: from May to September, a gondola reservation (online) is required to visit the Dachstein Glacier. This does not buy you a ticket – it just secures you a place in the gondola. Access to the glacier is via a toll road. Then simply validate the gondola ticket before exiting, and you won’t pay a toll.
