8 holiday resorts, in the heart of the Salzburger mountains, make up Salzburger Sportworld. This in turn is the centrepiece of Ski amadé, the largest ski cooperative in Austria. In Salzburger Sportworld, summer as well as winter, has plenty to offer. Each town has its own unique charms and will surprise you with the diverse range of activities and events on offer. There are approx. 320 km of pistes in this region alone, more than enough for a week’s skiing, if not Ski amadé offers 760km all on the same lift pass! Resorts are linked for convenience so Radstadt with Altenmarkt, Zauchensee linked to Flachauwinkl & Kleinarl, and Flachau is linked to Wagrain & Alpendorf, allowing days of hassle free skiing.

Consequently you are fully integrated with Austria’s largest ski paradise, Ski amadé, not only 760 km of pistes in 25 resorts but also 270 lifts, most of which have been recently modernised. The best part is, to use all of this you just need one lift pass if you pick the multiple day option fo Ski amadé.
This small resort is a real local gem: The Kemahdhöhe mountain, spans between Radstadt und Altenmarkt, giving 2 different aspects to one resort. From Radstadt, glide easily to the summit at 1,700 m or midstation with the 8 man Königslehen gondola, from Altenmarkt take the new 10 man Hochbifang gondola. From midstation on both sides, there are chairlifts back to the top to help alleviate queues. The easy to navigate pistes with a host of traditional ski huts to recharge your batteries in, make Radstadt – Altenmarkt the perfect beginner and family resort.

Zauchensee is the highest ski resort in Salzburger Sportworld (from 1,350 m in the valley to over 2,188 m at the top) making it truly snow-sure. It is accesible on the mountain road from Altenmarkt or from the A10 motorway from Flachauwinkl.
Connected to Flachauwinkl and Kleinarl, Zauchensee offers more than 70 km of piste and 25 lifts for every taste: from easy to challenging downhill runs, through moguls and powder fields. An ideal ski resort for experienced and the thrill seeking winter sports fans. There are 8 different marked off-piste routes and plenty of powder between and beside pistes to get you started without venturing off in to the back country.
From Zauchensee you can ski over to Flachauwinkl. At the base station you take the shuttle bus across the road to the Kleinarl-Flachauwinkl side at regular intervals where you will find the famous Absolut Park on the Shuttleberg mountain– the Mecca for Freestylers and Snowboarders.

The whole Freestyle area of the Absolut Park covers a huge area away from the pistes and is split into 5 sections. Rookies and Pros can test their nerve on a wide range of obstacles. The Chill House at the end of the Park is the perfect meeting point for Freestylers, where they can play on the boulder wall and a mini skateboard half pipe or relax in the chill areas with video walls. In good weather they can relax outside on the sofas with great views over the Jib Park.
The G-LINK Wagrain joins the Grießenkareck and Grafenberg mountains in Wagrain. Thanks to this valley-spanning gondola you can now effortlessly ski in Flachau over to Wagrain and on to St.Johann / Alpendorf without having to wait for a bus. That gives an impressive 120 km of piste and 45 ultra modern lifts, covering 3 resorts.
Ski Resort Flachau
The Ski resort Snow Space Flachau, the home town of ex-skistar Hermann Maier, is known for being innovative as well as modern and is beloved for its wide pistes. The World Cup run, timer section, floodlit piste, family runs, practice runs and so much more make it a fun place to ski – Great après-ski is also included. Flachau transforms at night to the Party-Hotspot in the Alps and everyone is invited to party the night away at the bars with dancing: Party time with live bands or DJs and cool drinks. At the Flachauer Gutshof, with the Musistadl, there are live bands just about every night.
Ski Resort Wagrain
The 8-man gondola from Moardörfl in Wagrain, the „Roten 8er“, the „Flying Mozart“ gondola or the Grafenberg gondola carry you easily up and down the mountain, without having to change lifts. This interlinked area has 37 km of pistes to choose from so you will never get bored. Families with small children find WAGRAINi’s Winter World perfect for the first try at skiing. The magic carpet, tubing run and snowpark. In the Zwergen (dwarf) house, minis can take a break and do some colouring, read a book or just play. Mum, dad, granny and grampa, can also visit this ski area on foot using the gondola with a pushchair or toboggan.
Ski Resort St. Johann / Alpendorf
Take the impressive G-LINK across the valley from midstation, or descend to the base station and take the free ski bus to the other side. The Freestyle Scene is happening at the Betterpark in Alpendorf. Next to the Alpendorf – Wagrain – Flachau ski region is the petite St. Johann local mountain, the Hahnbaum, pure Winter fun.
The Schladming-Dachstein ski region offers a further 230 km of pistes. A part of this region is the „Schladming 4-Peaks “ where Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm (all together 125 km of pistes) are seamlessly joined with a great selection of lifts! A good days skiing, if you can make it, is to start at one end and cruise across and back again. The Dachstein is famous for its glacier and has skiing there practically all year round.
Ski Area Reiteralm
From Radstadt, it is easiest to enter this 4-Peak ski area at Reiteralm, on the road towards Schladming and right on the border of Styria and Salzburgerland. The easiest access is with a car from Radstadt on the Enns valley road (approx. 15 mins). The ski bus from Radstadt (3 x per day) goes via Forstau (another great family resort) and takes approx. 40 mins. Reiteralm’s pistes are 100% covered by snow-making facilities and are often used by international ski teams because of that and the excellently prepared pistes. Reiteralm is also well loved for its diverse range of long, broad pistes to suit every level.
Ski Resort Fageralm
The Fageralm is a small, separate ski area, (still part of Ski amadé) making it a paradise for gentle skiers and families.
Fageralm offers:
- As it is positioned on a high plateau, it has a good range of wiede, gently undulating pistes.
- “Stress” is an unknown word on Fageralm.
- There are mainly gentle slopes that are easy to ski – ideal for beginners, nervous skiers and children.
- The lifts comprise of 4 drag lifts, 1 nursery lift and 2 chairlifts.
- The original rustic huts are a favourite with the locals.
- There is a selection of special kids routes with animals through the Fager Forest, the Red Indian path, the Viking route and more. There is even a Goliath Giant Swing.
You can take the bus to Forstau / Fageralm 3 x per day from Radstadt (Bus stop in the marketplace– only 80 m from the Hotel Stegerbräu). There are also busses between Fageralm and Reiteralm that take just 5 minutes.
Ski Amadé also includes the Dachstein-Glacier! Skiing up there on the highest mountain in Styria, with 5 lifts to choose from is amazing all year and the famous glacier crossing to Hallstatt Lake is challenge for winter, but if skiing is not your thing just visit the glacier for the fairytale mountain views and the pedestrian attractions such as the wobbly Dachstein suspension bridge, the Sky Walk, the Ice Palace or the Stairs to Nowhere which make this glacier at 2,700 m well worth a visit.
Obertauern is not part of Ski amadé, but is near to Radstadt (21 km away) so many of our guests feel it is worth a visit. This high resort based at 1,752 m above sea level is snow sure from end of November to the start of May. There are around 100 km of pistes in this natural bowl, guaranteeing ski and snowboard fun. The 26 lifts surround the town and interconnect with bridges over the road so you can easily cruise the pistes then come back to your start point. 61 km of easy, 34 km of intermediate and 4 km of challenging pistes make up the red and green Tauern circuit.
Good to know: Skiers wishing to ski in Obertauern (who have or will buy a ski pass for Obertauern) can use the free ski bus from Radstadt to Obertauern. The bus stop is at the post office just 500m from Hotel Stegerbräu. The bus runs at regular intervals and takes about 35 mins.
Please remember that your multi-day pass for Ski Amadé is not valid here in Obertauern, you will need to buy a separate lift pass. Plan you day for the start or end of your holiday to maximise your Ski amadé pass which runs for consecutive days unless you buy the 5 in 7 day pass. If you choose the ski package from Hotel Stegerbräu it is possible to book a shorter Ski amadé pass so that you can use the extra day in Obertauern.
Accessing ski resorts from the Stegerbräu Hotel
The free ski bus shuttles guests, from approx. mid December (depending on ski-opening), on a regular basis throughout the ski day to the Radstadt-Altenmarkt. The bus stop is just 80 m from the Hotel. Other resorts can be accessed from the Post Office bus stop (500 m from the Hotel).

Obviously, you can access all of the resorts in Ski amadé by car, with free car parking at each base station.
Ski rental and sports shops are located directly at the base stations..Ski equipment can be stored in the Stegerbräu’s ski cellar with its heated boot racks.
